Understanding the Calculation

The formula is simple: Vertical Needed = Dunk Height - Standing Reach

This gives you the minimum vertical leap required to get your hand high enough to dunk.

Dunk Height Reference

  • Standard Dunk (120"): 10ft rim (120") plus about 6" of ball clearance
  • Grab Rim (115"): Just touching the 10ft rim
  • Women's Dunk (105"): 8.5ft rim (102") plus ball clearance
